Thank you for joining us, Cayden. Let’s get to know you a little better. Take us through a normal day for you and how you balance school, homework, workouts, practice and your social life.
A typical day for me starts at 6:00 a.m., when I wake up and prepare to leave my house by 6:30 a.m. I then head to film study or practice. Afterward, I attend classes until about 4:30 p.m., then return to the locker room for another practice session. Following practice, I spend about an hour in treatment to ensure my body recovers properly and remains in top condition. Balancing school, homework, and football requires discipline and careful time management. I dedicate time each evening, usually around 8:00 p.m., to focus on my homework and other extracurricular activities I’m pursuing throughout the day.
Before we go further, I have to ask! Is there any special meaning or story behind having two mouthguards on the field? The green one that’s in your mouth and the pink one that hangs from your cage.
There isn’t any special meaning behind the two different mouth guards I wear; I simply enjoy having bright colors that help me stand out a bit more on the field.
Do you have a pregame ritual, superstition or routine that you never skip?
My pregame ritual includes listening to gospel music, which helps relax my mind and puts me in a calm, focused state before each game. I also make it a point to pray before every game, expressing gratitude to God for giving me the strength and opportunity to play football each week.
What about a special pregame meal or snack?
As for my pregame meal, I always eat a Cobb salad from Chick-fil-A. It provides a healthy option that is full of nutrients to fuel my body for the game ahead.
If you're given the locker-room speaker, what song are you banging to get the team hyped?
One of our team’s hype songs before games is “Dreams and Nightmares.” Playing it on the speakers brings our whole team together and helps us get energized before kickoff.
Who is that one special coach through your years of playing, and what did he do or say to inspire you?
The coach who has inspired me the most is Coach Gonzo. He pushed me all summer to become a better leader both on and off the field, encouraging me to help guide my teammates and push them to reach their potential. He never let me take a single rep off because he believes in my ability to be great, and I am extremely grateful for his support and guidance.
What’s one part of the game you have worked the hardest to improve since last season?
The aspect of my game I have worked hardest to improve since last year is my leadership. While it may sound simple, I believe leadership is essential for team success. When things get tough, you need someone who can keep everyone focused and motivated, and that’s the role I strive to fulfill for my team.
Are you planning to play college ball? Any particular school you’d like to attend? Have there been any offers yet? What would you major in?
I definitely plan to play college football, God willing. I don’t have a specific school in mind; I would be truly grateful for the opportunity to play at any college. I currently have one offer from Howard Payne University.
Those little dudes up in the stands watching and admiring you, wanting to play varsity ball and beyond — what words of advice would you give them?
To the younger generation, I would say that everyone’s journey is different. Don’t compare your progress to others or resent someone else’s success. Instead, use it as motivation to keep improving and show why you deserve your own spotlight.
Before we go, is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or the team, or any shoutouts or kudos you’d like to give?
Lastly, I want to give a special shoutout to my offensive linemen. Without their exceptional blocking, I wouldn’t be able to perform at my best. I am incredibly blessed and thankful to have such a dedicated group of teammates in front of me
